Helen Kemp

Award-winning ceramicist Helen Kemp studied at Edinburgh College of Art and at Glasgow School of Art during the 1970s.
“The inspiration for my work originally came from Mexican and American folk art and Victorian Staffordshire figures. I aim to create a whimsical or dreamlike feeling in the work through facial expressions, body language and sometimes with the use of narrative. I hand-model in earthenware and use underglaze colour with transparent glazes and gold lustre”.
The range includes wall sconces, candlesticks, bowls, boxes and decorative pieces, as well as ‘secret’ boxes, painted inside and out, sometimes containing ceramic objects.
Helen has exhibited all over the U.K., and has a dedicated following of collectors enchanted by the humour, originality and skill of her work.
